February 2026 Board Member Text Messaging

For January/February, in leu of an official board meeting, we exchanged text messages as topics evolved:

Jan 21st: Dave Sanderson confirmed he is willing to do the FML schedule. The board will review the draft before sending the final copy to Zach for import to the website.

Jan 26th: Don Jones had to temporarily step aside from the league per health concerns but, after a week, is back on-board as player/board member/manager. During the week of uncertainty, we shuffled Director duties: Bob became Director of Umpires while Marty took back her Director of Purchasing duties. With his return, Don became Director of Player Personnel.

Jan 28th: We decided to revert to the old FML logo, slightly edited to remove the NE/IA label.

Jan 28th: We realized we need to update the schedule outline to reflect the date changes affected by the CWS schedule. How we now play on June 5th and 26th.

Feb 1st: With the TMSL emailing about registration and an increased fee to cover paid umpires, we re-addressed the topic for the FML. Once again, we decided the cost was prohibitive for our league as we are comfortable using volunteer umpires. However, we will conduct an end-of-season survey asking the players for their input for next year.

Feb 6th: While the registration deadline is April 5th, we decided to change the wording from “must be received by” to factor in “extenuating circumstances. However, any registration not received by the date of the draft makes that applicant a Pool Player.”

Feb 6th: We set the draft for Thursday, April 9th at 4pm. Location to be determined.

Feb 6th: rules discussion about playing short a player. The current wording was vague; so, we edited it to implicitly say “If playing shorthanded, an “Out” will be called EACH TIME for the missing player(s)’ at-bat slot.”

Feb 7th: Bill sent Bcc group emails to 103 players from prior years asking for their RSVP intent to play. In the message, he included a summary schedule of the registration dates, draft date, and league play dates. And a plea for managers! We have 5 (Ron Franck, Randy Matsunami, Emery Horton, Don Fletcher, Don Jones) but need at least 3 more.
