Feb 23, 2026 Board Minutes

Call to order: 6:30 pm at Tanners (72nd & Harrison)

Attendees: Marty Boozilkee, Ron Franck, Randy Matsunami, Bill Riggle, Bob Nash, Don Jones.

Website:

Zach McIntyre demonstrated the tasks for the three approved administrators: Randy to generate registered player reports, Marty to input game score results, and Bill to edit the message board. Based on registered players’ response to the question, Randy will generate a list of umpires for Bob.

While Dave Sanderson has generated game schedules in past years, Zach will now take up the task.

Don/ director of player personnel:

After the draft, Don would like managers to query their players about their desire to play multiple games. Those who are not interested would be flagged on the matrix of players by teams so managers would not waste time calling them when seeking substitutes.

Pre-Draft assessment of players should be a full board collaboration based on: new players’ night league draft position, prior FML draft position, and evaluation of the players at UBA and Lamp Field practices. Such information should be made available to all managers to aid in a balanced draft result.

Preseason reminder to the managers about honesty and integrity when seeking substitutes when they have days advance notice. Game day discovery of needing a substitute may need opposing manager approval of those players available at the field.

Randy/ director of finance:

No changes in the account balance. He has a few paper registrations to enter along with updating registration payments as they come in.

Bob/ director of umpires:

Umpires- Hopefully we have enough volunteer umpires to schedule two per game in the hope that at least one will be available. Substitution takes precedence over umpire assignment, but we should still seek a replacement umpire. We have had games in the past where teams umpired themselves.

While Paul Hamill is not playing in the FML, he has offered to give volunteer umpires a preseason clinic. All umpires make mistakes, but we want to discourage those who knowingly don’t make the call as we strive for consistency among the group.

The board and the managers should fully support the umpires. Managers should control their hot-headed players before the umpire has to take action, such as ejections.

Rules- Bob pointed out how the FML rules specifically talk about the ball touching the grass in regard to the ability to throw the batter out at it first base. This is an improvement over the night league which has no such qualifier.

Bats- in coordination with the night League, FML will also inspect bats and provide stickers: one to designate it is an approved bat, and another (we might use orange duct tape instead) if applicable for senior hot bats used by women and those men 70+.

Ron/ director of Fields:

June 26th is no longer available due to a CWS conflict. Therefore, we decided to play Thursday, June 25th to avoid over 3 weeks of non-play.

Marty/ director of purchasing:

Jerseys- roughly $13ish each. While another vendor was suggested for the shirts, it was deemed to be the most expensive option. Therefore, among the 3-4 vendors already considered, we are going with our known supplier who has provided consistent quality with known availability of colors.

Hats- $11.50 each by Joe Bertzel (Evans Custom Apparel).

Softballs- already joint-ordered with TMSL and NSS, thus getting free shipping. Ron will give some of our collection of used balls to UBA.

Marty/commissioner’s closing comments:

The draft will be held Thursday, April 9th at 4:00 p.m. at a site to be determined. Hopefully some place quiet. Right now, we are looking at the concession stand at the fields as per past seasons. Managers will be able to conduct trades that night, but no-later-than 24 hours later to not impact shirt orders.

We are still in need of at least three managers.

Meeting ended at 8:35 pm.
